3 Eye Products For Beginners | Lady Tulip

Hello, Dolls & Gents,

Let’s talk about eyeshadows. I for one started out my love affair with makeup only with a flawless base makeup. Eyes and most importantly color didn’t matter much to me. The fact that I couldn’t blend a simple crease shadow, may have been one reason I avoided it altogether. But we all got to start somewhere.

My biggest advice for beginners looking to experiment with eyeshadows is to work with a flexible budget. Because anticipating not to drive yourself into exhaustion, by investing in cheaper products will only disappoint you (this isn’t always the case if you really understand the products you purchase). Get the good quality pigments, which aren’t harsh and can be layered. Most importantly spend exactly the same amount of time you spend on researching for the best eyeshadow products, on tips that will help you get the most out of the products you buy. Even the best eyeshadow palette will disappoint… if you cannot work with the product.

With that said, I want to share with you some of the products that I started out with and still currently reach for.

Sephora Single Shadows.

These shadows are super ‘fun’, and won’t hurt your pocket as much as most high-end single shadows. But if you want to abide by the rules of blending, and creating looks to flatter your eye shape. You would want to consider purchasing complimentary shadows from the line. This line of shadows is most attractive for the pops of warm and icy shimmers. Mattes are good too, but you won’t find much diversity in the tones. Some shadows look beautiful on their own. Meanwhile, others not so much. I love using these shadows for a simple halo eye or for a shimmery lid. They are really easy to work with your fingers, which makes it a very beginner friendly product.

Colourpop Pressed Powder Eyeshadows.

Buttery, pigmented and crazy affordable. They blend like a dream, and are really good products if you are looking to practice wearing shadows. Their color range is crazy diverse, and the line is ought to have a majority of colors you are probably looking for. These shadows have minimal fall out (and none if you prep your eyelids well before application). Take your time with these, and allow the pigments to warm their way into your heart, as they prepare you to experiment with more colors.

Zoeva Cocoa Blend Palette.

Out of all the eyeshadows I own, I tend to use this palette the most. Even perhaps on the daily on some weeks. That is how much I love this palette. It’s definitely an investment and worth doing your research pre-purchase. Once you have gotten the hang of blending your shadows, this palette can up your game and provide you with an exquisite range of complimentary shadows, that you may create day and night looks with. Sure, it is only 10 shades, but I truly believe that this is one of the OG palettes for earthy and plummy and delicious golden shadows. Nowadays you see almost the exact same shadows in newer palettes. But this one is quite special, the shimmers are foil shadows complimented with a decent number of mattes. The chocolaty, ashy and purple hues will allow you to smoke out sultry eye looks. I recommend this palette a 100% to anyone looking to improve their eyeshadow game.

Since I started, I have come a long way and hence use more eyeshadows now. It is almost as if, the makeup isn’t complete without a good eye look. But I still remember what it felt like starting out. Holding the brush wrong, adding way too much color or simply just putting the wrong shadows in the wrong places, will make me cringe every time. But just like many trades, practice makes perfect. When you overcome that fear of color…that is when you will blend like a pro. So get to it!

Thank you so much for reading this post, and I shall see you on the next one.
